Choice Registration Program

Through the Choice Registration Process, families have the opportunity to apply for placement at a school other than their neighborhood school.
 
Please review the procedures below regarding Choice, and click on the link to view the application. Please note that approval of Choice placement is not guaranteed and is based upon space availability.
 

*Please Note - Internet Academy can be found through their website at internetacademy.BSS.org. Please follow their instructions for registration, as requests for Internet Academy are not processed through Choice Enrollment.

    A zoom link with details for viewing will be sent 1-2 days prior to the lottery.

Attendance is not required to obtain placement or a wait list number. Families will be contacted after the lottery.

Deadline for acceptance of lottery placement Choice Lottery Applicants

Applicants who have been approved for Choice at their requested school must respond by May 1, 2025 to secure their offer of placement.

May 1 - August 29, 2025 Post-Lottery Application Open to ALL Applicants

Residents of the Federal Way School District

Non-Residents of Federal Way School District

Application will open at 7:30 am on May 1.

Residents of BSS:
Choice Applications will be added to the bottom of the waitlist in the order received.

Non-Residents:
Choice Applications for non-residents of the Federal Way School District must be accompanied by a Choice Transfer Request.

Post-Lottery Application Deadlines

(Notification of approval OR continued wait list to follow within 1-2 weeks of deadline)

All Choice Applicants

Applications are due at the following dates to be reviewed for approval. Wait list applicants will be notified 1-2 weeks after these deadlines whether their application is approved or will continue to remain on the wait list until the next application deadline and enrollment review. Families will be notified of final approval or denial by the 10th school day of the year.

Notification of approval will take place via email, unless the parent requests a different form of communication.

Approved scholars will have 5 business days to respond to the acceptance letter and be enrolled at the "Choice" school.

Parents/Guardians can accept the letter by email, or sign a copy at the approved Choice school or Educational Service Center at:

Final Placement determinations will take place on the 10th school day, and notifications will be mailed by the 15th school day.

 

Choice Transfer Request

When a family resides outside of the district boundaries they are applying to attend, a Choice Transfer Request form is required in addition to a district's Choice application (may also be called a Non-Resident Application, Transfer Waiver, etc). Non-residents applying to attend a school within BSS boundaries must submit both a Choice Application and Choice Transfer Request to be considered for placement.

Reminder:

  • Choice Transfer Requests expire each year. This form must be filled out each year that a scholar attends a school in the Blue Star Secondary School boundary.
  • Please also contact the non-resident district to see if they have additional Choice/Transfer paperwork.
